Dictating in 2 minutes
Everything below works the same on web, phone, and Mac.
1Tap. Talk. Tap.
Tap the big mic button to start, speak naturally, tap it again to stop. About a second later your polished text appears. Don’t perform — talk like you talk. Try saying:
“um so meet me friday… no wait, make that thursday”
and it comes out as “Meet me Thursday.” Corrections, ums, and false starts are handled — never restart a dictation over a slip. Talk as long as you like — one dictation holds up to 20 minutes.
2Pick a style for where it's going
The chips — Notes · Text · Email · Formal — shape the result for its destination: fragments are fine in Notes, Emails get full sentences and paragraphs. Your choice sticks until you change it.
3Decide how much editing happens
The cleanup level is your trust dial: Off = exactly what you said, Light = punctuation only, Standard = ums removed and corrections applied, Heavy = restructured for clarity. When in doubt, Standard.
4Check Pip's work — or don't
Every result has three views: Polished, Raw (exactly what you said), and Diff — deletions struck out, additions highlighted, so you see precisely what changed. Your raw words are always kept in History.
5Teach it your words
Add names and jargon to the Dictionary (“Wispr”, “Neon”, your kids’ names) and Pip spells them right every time. It only ever corrects words you actually said.
6On your Mac: talk into any app
- Click where you want words — an email, a doc, a chat
- Hold Fn and talk
- Let go — your polished words type themselves where your cursor was
Prefer not to hold a key? Press ⇧⌘M (Shift+Command+M) to start, talk, and press it again to finish — or double-tap Fn for hands-free.
Missed the spot? ⌃⌘V (Paste last) types your last dictation again wherever your cursor is. First launch asks for Microphone and Accessibility — approve once, never again.
On Windows: the same — hold Ctrl+Win and talk, or press Ctrl+Shift+M to start and stop (and Shift+Alt+Z for Paste last). There’s only the microphone to allow.
7On your phone
iPhone/iPad: open Murmur in Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen (or install via TestFlight invite). Android: Chrome → ⋮ → Install app. After dictating, Copy or Send to… drops the text into Messages, Mail, or anything else.
8iPhone: make Murmur your main keyboard
Once the Murmur keyboard is enabled (Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard… → Murmur, then turn on Allow Full Access), two tweaks make it feel native:
- Put Murmur first: on that same Keyboards screen, tap Edit, drag Murmur to the top of the list, tap Done. Now one tap of the 🌐 globe reaches it.
- Retiring another dictation keyboard? Tap Edit → the red − next to it → Delete. You can re-add it anytime.
